If you’re at all familiar with poker, you know that it’s a craze that has swept the world, inspiring dreams of megabucks payouts like those earned by the winners of the World Series of Poker, from Chris Moneymaker on down the line. Of course, if you’ve seen Texas Hold’Em poker on TV, you might have realized that every player had to start somewhere. Before they knew how to calculate odds on the fly, how to understand opponent behavior, and how to win more hands than they lost, they had to learn the basics of No-Limit Hold’Em.

Even Daniel Negreanu started out trying to remember whether a straight beats a flush (or was it the other way around?) at some point in his life. Before he had tens of millions of dollars in winnings, he had to learn Texas Hold’em poker hand rankings. To help those at the beginning of their own epic poker journey, we created this guide so that you could see Texas Hold’em hands listed from strongest to weakest. You’ll also see stats behind how often they show up, which will help you in Ignition’s cash games and online poker tournaments.

Even though bluffing is powerful, you’re going to have to beat people straight up sometimes in Texas Hold’em poker online by having the best hand, and that means you need to know the hand rankings pretty well. That’s where many hands are won and lost – at the showdown – when you have to put your money where your mouth is and turn over some strong cards. Keep in mind, though, that this is a guide for Texas Hold’em. It will also help you with Omaha, but Omaha Hi/Lo requires a different set of hand rankings. Fortunately, at Ignition Poker, we’ve got a guide to low Omaha hands as well!
